Introduction

A fraction represents parts of a whole. The numerator (top number) shows how many parts we have, and the denominator (bottom number) shows how many equal parts the whole is divided into.

Key Concepts:
  • Numerator: The number of parts we have (top number)
  • Denominator: The total number of equal parts (bottom number)
  • Proper Fraction: Numerator is less than denominator (e.g., 3/4)
  • Improper Fraction: Numerator is greater than or equal to denominator (e.g., 5/4)
  • Mixed Number: A whole number and a proper fraction (e.g., 1 ¼)
  • Equivalent Fractions: Different fractions that represent the same value (e.g., 1/2 = 2/4)

How to Use

  • Visual Representation: Adjust numerator and denominator to see how fractions are represented visually
  • Equivalent Fractions: Explore how multiplying numerator and denominator by the same number creates equivalent fractions
  • Fraction Operations: Practice adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions with visual aids
  • Comparing Fractions: Compare two fractions side by side to see which is larger
  • Switch between circle and rectangle visualizations to see different representations
  • Toggle decimal and percentage displays to see different ways of expressing the same value
